Community Libraries Improve Reading Practice and Performance

Bangladesh has many community libraries, but they have traditionally been underused to support children’s reading. Beyond Access Bangladesh, a partnership between IREX and Save the Children’s READ program, helps community libraries transform into vibrant child-friendly spaces and engage community members to foster a culture of reading.

Innovision was commissioned to assess the extent to which Beyond Access Bangladesh improved early grade children's reading practice and performance. A baseline study was conducted in December 2015 and an external end-line evaluation in June 2017. This infographic highlights key findings, which show the project's role in increasing text exposure, improving reading performance, engaging parents, and enabling an environment where children can associate reading with fun.
