How Beyond Access is Promoting Inclusive Economic Development in the Philippines

After a one-year pilot, Beyond Access Philippines is supporting the Philippine Digital Strategy by expanding its network to more than 60 libraries across 10 hub municipalities so that tens of thousands more Filipinos have the digital skills they need to be competitive in the Philippines’ growing information economy. The Philippine government has prioritized policies aimed at increasing access to information and improving digital skills among its citizens, recognizing that these are key components in promoting inclusive economic and community development. Through its network of over 60 libraries, Beyond Access Philippines aims to align the work of libraries with these national priorities by improving digital literacy skills for 36,000 users and offering workforce development services for over 20,000 users during 2015. Project activities focus on catalyzing public and private investment in libraries and training librarians to develop new services that improve digital literacy skills.
