This post is part of a series of posts highlighting the work of library innovators accepted as Beyond Access Members.
For over 60 years, the Davao City Public Library collection has served citizens in the Philippines through the joint efforts of city government officials, NGOs, and community stakeholders. Today, the fully-stocked library continues to facilitate the exchange of ideas and resources through a mix of traditional and new technology programming.
Activities such as computer training and community storytelling events form a core component of the Davao library’s services. Through an exciting new partnership with the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the library is also playing a leading role in efforts to promote city-wide public knowledge management. Among other upcoming projects, an online portal is being developed to increase information-sharing between the city’s public and private sector stakeholders. Supported by the city’s umbrella ICT organization ICT Davao, the library will improve its methods of digitizing and expanding its online collection to better reach the public.
With a growing local population and increasing demand for community services, the Davao City Public Library has positioned itself as a dynamic institution—a key player in meeting modern-day information needs. We welcome them to the Beyond Access community of members.
